Since its inception in 1999, Friends of Metro Mounted Unit has been assisting the LVMPD Mounted Unit with unforeseen expenses, horse purchases, a horse trailer, as well as specialized training for Mounted Unit Officers. Through the fund raising efforts, “Friends” has been successful in provide anything from bits and dress blankets for the horses to Specialized Mounted Unit training for new Officers in the Unit. “Friends” biggest fund-raiser for the last three years has been the Mounted Unit Obstacle Competition. This year was no exception raising over $1500.00. With the help of our 25 volunteers, including 8 Police Officers, 2 AMR employees, 10 Explorers, 4 civilian volunteers and our own Animal Care Specialist, the competition was again a huge success.

Before we announce the results, Thank You to the incredible volunteer support which made everything run smooth. We had 39 participants and about 300 spectators. The sponsors were great and donated several prizes for the raffle.

At our Obstacle Competition on Saturday, March 22nd, Veterinarian Leslie Schur from Desert Pines Equine will administer a microchip clinic for horses. All proceeds of the microchip clinic will go to Friends of Metro Mounted Unit. Cost for the microchip clinic is $50 and will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
